Evaluation procedure

Junior professors at MLU are initially appointed as temporary civil servants for a period of three years. The extension of the civil service relationship for a further three years depends on the junior professor's retention in office. The retention is determined by means of an interim evaluation. If the junior professorship is tenure-track (tenure-track professorship), a further evaluation takes place before the end of the six-year period. The tenure evaluation is conducted with the aim of assessing the junior professor's suitability and ability for a tenured professorship at MLU.

The decision on the retention or non-retention in the course of the interim as well as the tenure evaluation is made by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Council, taking into account the vote of the Evaluation Commission. Compliance with university-wide quality standards is reviewed by the Appointment Review Commission.
