University Ranking

University rankings can have a considerable influence on the image, reputation and attractiveness of a university in public and in politics, among students, scientists and academics. They differ in their methodology, the use and weighting of evaluation criteria, the choice of subjects, the target group and their regional or international orientation.

MLU has been regularly involved in the CHE ranking since 2011 and will also participate in the U-Multirank with its introduction in 2016. The Staff unit for higher education planning an information management coordinates the internal survey processes and provides data and figures for the queries in both rankings.

CHE-Ranking

The university ranking of the "Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung" (CHE) is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking in German-speaking countries. In addition to facts about studying, teaching and equipment, the ranking also includes assessments by students of the study conditions at their university. The CHE is currently investigating more than 300 universities for this purpose. Indicators from the fields of teaching and research are also included. The ranking is based exclusively on subject-specific comparisons which assign the subject-specific profiles with strengths and weaknesses of the individual universities to three different ranking groups (top, middle and final group).

The U-Multirank (UMR) is a worldwide university ranking developed by an association of European university research institutes with financial support from the European Commission. The ranking is multidimensional: Instead of simplifying overall values, it differentiates between the profiles and achievements of the universities and compares the universities in different performance areas.
